Kensuke Isshiki founded Isshiki International Patent Office in March 1976. On April 1, 2003, ISSHIKI & COMPANY was established as a patent business corporation and succeeded the interests of Isshiki International Patent Office.

As of January 1, 2007, Isshiki & Co. comprises of 76 individuals, 15 of whom are benrishi (patent attorney). Kensuke Isshiki (managing director), Noritaka Harashima, Koji Yoshida, Yasushi Aoki and Sanji Miyagi are the directors of Isshiki & Co.


For over three decades, Isshiki & Co. has been providing its clients with a wide range of services in the intellectual property field. We mainly focus on prosecution of Japanese as well as international patents, utility models, trademarks and designs. We also provide opinions and represent clients in litigation in Japanese courts and in proceedings before the Japan Patent Office.

Patents. We prosecute patents and handle patent-related matters relating to virtually every technical field ranging from electronic, electrical, mechanical, chemical, architectural and civil engineering to biotechnology, software, and computer science. Many of our patent attorneys and technical specialists have advanced technical degrees, including four technical specialists with a Ph.D.

Trademarks and Designs. Four of our patent attorneys specialize in trademarks and designs and provide clients with services in prosecution, searches and counseling with respect to the full spectrum of goods and services.

Foreign Applications and Office Actions. All of our patent attorneys and technical specialists are highly proficient in reading English-language documents -- thereby enabling the attorneys and specialists who handle the original Japanese patent application to review its foreign counterpart applications and related Office Actions, and ensuring that the high-quality service is rendered efficiently. In addition, we have six full-time professional translation staffs. In total, 13 of our patent attorneys, technical specialists and staff have studied in the U.S. or otherwise learned to speak English fluently, allowing our foreign clients and their counsel to communicate with us directly and effectively via telephone.

Litigation Services. We handle a variety of litigation matters, including patent and trademark infringement lawsuits before the District Court and suits against trial decisions made by the Japan Patent Office before the Intellectual Property High Court (a special branch of the Tokyo High Court). Five of our patent attorneys have received a special qualification allowing them to represent parties in Japanese litigation. To date, we have litigated patent infringement cases involving the following technical fields: mechanical, architectural, civil, electronic, software, telecommunication and computer engineering.
